The police in Namakgale and the Phalaborwa VISPOL Unit, have apprehended three male suspects, aged 31, 34, and 37, for possession of suspected stolen property. One of the suspects is also facing an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The arrests were affected at Majeje, Namakgale policing area, on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, at about 11:00.
Namakgale Detectives, in collaboration with members from Phalaborwa VISPOL, received information about a bakkie seen around Namakgale loaded with air conditioners.
Following up on a business burglary report in Phalaborwa, the team patrolled the area until they located the vehicle, which still had some air conditioners at the back. The driver failed to provide a convincing explanation and eventually admitted to having stolen the items in Phalaborwa town.
Further investigation into other related stolen items revealed that the suspect had knowledge of their whereabouts. He led the police to Majeje, where some of the stolen property was recovered, including electrical appliances, fridges, furniture, couches, and groceries, among other items.
During a further search of the house, conducted in the presence of the owner, the police discovered a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off, one magazine, and 12 cartridges.
The three suspects were arrested and are expected to appear before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 August 2025, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property. One suspect will face an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
