At approximately 15:26, a 70-year-old male was rescued by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after he slipped and fell down an embankment behind his residence on Geranium Road in Brindhaven – KZN today (Monday).
The man had been attempting to pick curry leaves from a tree located near the perimeter fence at the rear of his property. Due to the wet grass, he lost his footing and rolled approximately six metres down the embankment, landing in a ditch at the base of the slope.
The elderly male was unable to climb back up and attempted calling out for assistance for approximately two hours. Neighbours eventually heard him and, upon investigating, discovered him in the ditch. Reaction Officers used a rope system to safely pull the man up from the embankment.
He did not sustain any injuries and was able to walk back into his home unaided following the rescue.
