#AntiGangUnit members who were deployed in Hanover Park due to the ongoing gang violence in the area, arrested a 35-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Members swiftly responded to a shooting incident that occurred while patrolling in the Philippi policing precinct. They were patrolling down Rywood Walk, Hanover Park when they spotted a suspicious looking male running in their direction. They stopped and searched him and found a Glock pistol, two extended magazines and 19 x 9mm calibre rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested.
Members proceeded to a premises in Halman Walk, Hanover Park and conducted a thorough search of the premises. An 18-year-old male was found in possession of a .38 Special Taurus revolver without a serial number and four x .38 Special calibre rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
The team successfully arrested one suspect in a tracing operation conducted, when they went on a foot and vehicle patrol in the precinct. A 29-year-old male was arrested for murder and attempted murder in a case reported at Philippi SAPS early in December 2025.
The members gathered information regarding a firearm that was hidden at a premises in Lansport Road, Hanover Park. A 357 Magnum revolver without a serial number and five .38 Special calibre rounds of ammunition were found hidden in a dirt bin. The exhibits were confiscated and booked in for further processing. An enquiry docket was opened at Philippi SAPS for further investigation.
All suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court on their respective charges.
