The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mme Violet Mathye, led a Road Safety operation along the R71 near Paledi Mall in Mankweng today, 28 December 2025.
The operation focused on pedestrian safety education, vehicle roadworthiness inspections, and safety belt compliance, aiming to reduce accidents on this notoriously high-risk route.
A multi-agency team comprising road safety officers, Limpopo traffic officers, national traffic police, and Polokwane and Capricorn District traffic officers conducted the operation.
MEC Mathye commended the efforts of the officials involved, stating, “I’m happy with your efforts and the results that the Operations are yielding, let us continue working and save lives.”
The operation is part of ongoing initiatives to enhance safety on the Limpopo roads, including the R71, which has seen a reduction in pedestrian accidents following reinforced enforcement efforts.
It yielded the following results:
– 105 vehicle stop/checked
– 22 vehicles discontinued
– 13 summons issued
– 08 Taxis impounded
