Members of the #AntiGangUnit deployed in the Kensington area followed up on information about firearms at a premises in Wellesley Street, Factreton. The members conducted a search of the house, where they found two 9mm pistols without serial numbers and 52 rounds of ammunition. They arrested a 20-year-old male for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
In Vredenburg, members of Vredenburg Detectives and #PublicOrderPolice were conducting tracing operations in search of murder suspects. They searched a premises in Luister Street, Witteklip, and found a 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition inside the house. Two males aged 25 were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Furthermore, members of Mitchell’s Plain SAPS were busy with crime prevention patrols when they heard gunshots in the nearby vicinity and followed the sound. The members saw males running in their direction, and when they noticed the police, they split up and ran in different directions. Members gave chase on foot and apprehended one male at the corner of Lords and Lotus Streets, where a 9mm pistol with ammunition was found in his possession.
The adult male faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects will make their respective court appearances in Goodwood, Vredenburg, and Mitchell’s Plain.
