The Welkom #AntiGangUnit has arrested a 49-year-old foreign national following a community tip-off after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Monontsa Village in Qwaqwa.
On Thursday, 12 February 2026, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit received information from the community regarding a person allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm at Monontsa Village. The information was operationalised, leading police to identify and search the suspect’s residence.
During the search, police recovered a 9mm pistol, a magazine, and ammunition with serial numbers filed off. The suspect was immediately arrested and is expected to appear before the Tseki Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 13 February 2026, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
