The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit and High-Speed Unit Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects aged forty-two(42) and fifty-one (51) facing multiple charges in the Kempton Park area.
Officers received information about a male suspect allegedly posing as a medical doctor, performing illegal abortions, issuing fraudulent prescriptions and selling sick notes. Acting on the tip-off, Officers proceeded to a building at the corner of Central Avenue and West Street, where they found the suspect operating from an office.
Upon introducing themselves and requesting relevant professional documentation, the suspect admitted to falsely presenting himself as a medical doctor and herbalist using a medical certificate that did not belong to him.
During the search, a second male suspect arrived at the premises and identified himself as the assistant. Both suspects then attempted to bribe the Officers in an effort to avoid arrest. The Officers confiscated the bribe money along with termination tablets, a doctor’s stamp, fraudulent medical certificates, a sick note book, and cell phones found on the premises.
Both suspects were arrested and charged with fraud, bribery, contravention of the Health Professions Act and contravention of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
