The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Cable Theft Unit has arrested an African male suspect in connection with the theft of electricity cables at the Pretoria West Power Station on Saturday, 18 July 2026.
The arrest was a result of information received from security personnel regarding suspected trespassing on the power station premises. The Cable Theft Unit members were promptly activated.
Upon arrival at the scene, an African male was caught in possession of suspected stolen electricity cables.
The suspect was arrested and he is currently detained at a local police station pending a court appearance, facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure and possession of suspected stolen property.
TMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro applauded the hard work and dedication of the officers involved and encourages the public to report any suspicious activities to assist in combating cable theft and other related crimes by contacting TMPD on 012 358 7095/7096.
