Three male suspects between the ages of 17 and 49 will make their first court appearance before the Athlone Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, after they were apprehended by members of Western Cape #FlyingSquad following a shootout at the Vlei informal settlement in Athlone on Saturday night (09 May 2026).
The members responded to a complaint of an ongoing shooting at the mentioned area and upon arrival, they gathered intelligence which led them to the address where the three suspects were arrested. Two firearms with 73 rounds of ammunition were confiscated and booked in as evidence.
In an unrelated incident, members of #OperationLockdown III executed a search warrant at 7th Street, Firgrove in Macassar and recovered 710 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R42 600 and an undisclosed amount of cash. The members descended at the suspect’s address with a narcotics detection dog and conducted a search during which a 55-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of drugs.
He will appear at the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court on Monday 11 May 2026.
