A Green Mamba measuring approximately 1.5 metres in length was discovered inside a home on Piccadilly Street in Ottawa – KZN today (Thursday, 11/06/2026).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the residence after the homeowner reported that a snake had been located beneath a sofa in the lounge.
According to the resident, his daughter became concerned after hearing the family dog barking excessively. She went to investigate and lifted a pillow that had been placed on the sofa when she noticed the snake. She immediately called out for assistance and her father responded. He then observed the reptile moving beneath the sofa and contacted the Operations Centre for assistance.
Reaction Officer Bryson Bisnath was dispatched to the scene and safely captured the Green Mamba before removing it from the house.
