The vigilance and swift response of members attached to the Kwazakhele Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) resulted in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of numerous suspected stolen items following two house robberies in Kwazakhele on Monday, 14 July 2026.
At approximately 19:40, members were conducting proactive crime prevention patrols in Zwide when they received reports of house robberies that had just occurred within the New Brighton and Kwazakhele policing precincts. Information indicated that the suspects were travelling in a small hatchback vehicle.
While patrolling Khame Street in Zwide, members spotted a grey Hyundai i10 with its boot open and observed several men loading a television into the vehicle. Upon noticing the police, the suspects immediately fled the scene, and a high-speed chase ensued. The suspects were successfully intercepted in Gonya Street, Zwide.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of property positively linked to two house robbery cases registered at New Brighton SAPS and Kwazakhele SAPS. The recovered property included 14 cellular phones, a tablet, three school bags, three beanies, a face mask, a Skyworth LCD television, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles with two controllers each, three pairs of sandals, and various PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 games. The dark grey Hyundai i10 allegedly used in the commission of the crimes was also seized as an exhibit.
The six suspects, aged between 18 and 33 years, were arrested and charged with house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property. They remain in police custody and are expected to appear before the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court during the week.
