POLOKWANE – A multi-disciplinary team comprising members of the Lebowakgomo Task Team and the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) of Lebowakgomo SAPS achieved a significant breakthrough following an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Saturday, 21 February 2026, at approximately 08:00.
Members received information about a maroon Nissan NP200 allegedly transporting dagga along the R37 main road within the Lebowakgomo policing area. The information was immediately operationalised, and while conducting patrols along the R518, members spotted a vehicle matching the description.
The vehicle was stopped and searched. Upon inspection, members discovered that the bakkie was fully loaded with dagga. The driver failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of the large quantity of dagga.
The 40-year-old suspect was immediately arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in dagga.
The estimated street value of the seized dagga is approximately R250 000.00, while the vehicle used in the commission of the crime is valued at approximately R120 000-00. The vehicle was also confiscated.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on 23 February 2026.
Police investigations are ongoing.
