KZN VIP Response Officers successfully apprehended a suspect following suspicious activity along Trenance Park Drive in the area of Phoenix during the early hours of Friday morning. Whilst conducting routine patrols, officers identified an African male displaying suspicious behaviour.
Upon approaching the individual, the suspect dropped a black bag believed to contain copper pipes and fled on foot towards the Palmview area.
A coordinated search was immediately initiated. During this time, an alert community member contacted the KZN VIP Control Room after spotting the suspect fleeing through the area. Additional response units were dispatched without delay.
Through swift tactical response and teamwork, KZN VIP officers successfully tracked and apprehended the suspect.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is believed to be linked to a copper theft incident in the Grove End area.
It is further alleged that the suspect was en route to Palmview to exchange the stolen copper pipes at a local residence for cash or other valuable items.
The suspect also admitted to involvement in the exchange of stolen copper for monetary gain. The suspect has been handed over to SAPS for further investigation and processing.
