Swift action by members of Garies Police led to the arrest of three suspects found in possession of suspected stolen copper and aluminium cables in Garies on Tuesday, 14 July 2026.
At approximately 09:00, SAPS members acted on information regarding a white Ford Ranger bakkie allegedly transporting suspected stolen cables en route to Cape Town.
Members on patrol located the vehicle, stopped it, and escorted it to the Garies Police Station for further investigation.
A search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of the occupants, during which police recovered several bags containing suspected stolen copper, aluminium, and Eskom electrical cables.
Three male suspects, aged 38, 48, and 50, were arrested on charges relating to the possession of suspected stolen property. The Ford Ranger, believed to have been used in the commission of the offence, was also seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
The recovered copper is estimated to be worth approximately R19 824, while the aluminium is valued at approximately R3 330. The total estimated value of the recovered property is approximately R23 154.00.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Garies Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 16 July 2026.
