A man in his late 20’s has survived an approximate 10 meter fall through a roof, but has been left with critical injuries.
At around 1pm this afternoon, paramedics were called to the site of a business on Main road in Randfontein where the man is understood to have been painting on a roof. According to bystanders on scene, one of the boards that the painter was standing on gave way and he fell through into the building. Just before he hit the floor, witnesses explained that he first fell onto a horizontal metal pole that was approximately two meters from the floor after which he then fell to the concrete floor.
Paramedics arrived to find that he had sustained what appeared to be a head injury and back injuries and the Advanced Life Support paramedics then initiated stabilising care. He was transported to Leratong hospital after which they decided that he would be airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke hospital under care of a specialist doctor. AER24 landed at Leratong a short while later and the young man now remains in a critical condition at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
Health and Safety officers of the company will investigate the events leading up to this accident.
