A retired Municipality Employee was killed in a targeted assassination in Mt. Moriah – KZN today (Thursday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to Idolofiya Drive at approximately 10:24 after receiving reports of a shooting at a tuck shop.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival, located the male inside the informal structure. He was shot in the chest and left arm. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased. Three spent 9mm cartridges were recovered inside the shop.
According to eyewitnesses, a white VW Polo stopped near the tuck shop. A single occupant exited the vehicle and opened fire on the deceased before they fled.
Residents confirmed that the deceased retired from the Ethekwini Municipality and has since operated a tuck shop in the area. He was in possession of his cellphone and other valuables.
The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.
