WESTERN CAPE – Anti-Gang Unit members demonstrated their commitment to a safe and secure environment, nabbing three gang affiliated suspects in Kensington yesterday. The members were deployed in Kensington on crime prevention duties amidst ongoing gang rivalry conflicts. They hit the ground running, following up on information which led them to an address in Glider Crescent, Kensington where they found a 21-year-old, gang affiliated suspect, in possession of a black 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition. They arrested him for possession of a prohibited firearm and swiftly moved to another house in the same street where there was a 43-year-old suspect, affiliated with a different gang. While searching the premises, members uncovered 100x 9mm rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition. Both suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court.
Furthermore, members proceeded to an intelligence driven tracing operation in Ventura Street where they arrested a 35-year-old suspect. The suspect was sought in connection with a murder and attempted murder that occurred in Kensington early this month. Once charged, he will make his first court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court.
Meanwhile, members attached to the same unit deployed in Delft were conducting routine patrols when they received information of a consignment of drugs delivered at an informal settlement in the area. The members hastened to the address and confiscated 151 small sachets of tik and one bag of unprocessed tik crystals. The suspect, a 42-year-old gang affiliated male, was arrested for dealing in drugs. The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court.
