Police in the Eastern Cape have launched a manhunt for two detainees who have #escaped from lawful custody at the Cookhouse police station last night, 04 December 2025.
It is alleged that on the above-mentioned date at about 21:20, members who were on duty discovered about the escape, after a member of the public came to report a robbery, and also mentioned the name of Atshaxole Booi (23) as the suspect.
According to the police, Booi was detained in police holding cells for various serious crimes. Members went to conduct an inspection in the cells, and that was when police discovered that two detainees, Atshaxole Booi (23, and Patrick. Njokweni (34) escaped from lawful custody. The escapees are still at large. Police have opened a case of escaping from lawful custody. There is also a second case of aiding and abetting that was opened for further investigation.
