The Provincial teams under Operation #SaferFestiveSeason have wrapped up high-impact operations in the Ehlanzeni and Gert Sibande districts, resulting in the arrest of 17 suspects and the issuing of multiple fines between 23 and 25 December 2025.
The operation is aimed at preventing and combating crime in places of interest across Mpumalanga.
Ehlanzeni District highlights:
• Seven (7) suspects aged between 25 and 33 were arrested in the Matsulu and Barberton areas for various offences, including contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa, bribery and dealing in dagga.
• Four (4) suspects aged between 26 and 40 were arrested in Bushbuckridge and Mhala for offences including contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa and driving under the influence of alcohol.
• Seven (7) fines were issued for violations of the Road Traffic Act.
Gert Sibande District operations:
• Four (4) suspects were arrested in Wesselton and Ermelo for offences including possession of crystal meth (620 grams with an estimated street value of approximately R40 000) and mandrax (15 kilograms with an estimated street value of approximately R5 000).
• Six (6) suspects aged between 29 and 43 were arrested in the Leslie area:
• Four (4) for dealing in drugs/dagga, with an estimated street value of approximately R3 600.
• Two (2) for possession of illicit cigarettes.
• Two (2) fines were issued for contraventions of the Mpumalanga Liquor Act.
