The astute members deployed under Operation Safer Festive Season conducted a compliance operation and crime-prevention activities in the Volksrust area on 20 January 2026.
The operation focused on stop-and-search actions, vehicle searches, and compliance inspections at liquor outlets, with the aim of combating drug-related crime, illegal trading, and contravention of the Immigration Act.
During the operation, six suspects, aged 20 and 45, were arrested, three male suspects were arrested for possession of drugs (Crystal Meth, Mandrax, and Heroin), with an estimated street value of approximately R27,000.00.
Three foreign nationals were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa. The estimated street value of the illicit cigarettes is approximately R370,000.00.
All suspects, charged with contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa, are expected to reappear in court on 09 February 2026.
Meanwhile in Kwamhlanga area, five suspects, aged between 23 and 55, were arrested at Kwamhlanga and Tweefontein during Operation Safer Festive Season on Monday, 19 January 2026.
During the exercise, dedicated law enforcement members apprehended six suspects for various offences. The suspects were charged for contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of illicit liquor and possession of drugs.
The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Police to combat different crimes that are affecting the community. During the operation, illicit cigarettes, drugs, dagga, cash and different kinds of beverages were seized.
The Detectives are working collaboratively with officials from the department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the arrested suspects.
