The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, in collaboration with a private security company, arrested a sixty-year-old (60) male suspect for possession of a reported stolen vehicle, in the Elsburg area.
Officers received lookout information from the private security members, regarding a reported stolen white Toyota Land Cruiser, seen travelling in Elsburg. Officers responded promptly and successfully spotted the vehicle with a single male occupant. The vehicle was tactically stopped at the corner of Conner Barfoot and Parnell Road and a systematic inspection revealed that the vehicle was fitted with false registration number plates. Further examination showed that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the windscreen had been tampered with and the suspect was unable to provide legitimate documentation, instead producing fraudulent vehicle registration papers.
The suspect is facing a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle and was detained at Elsburg Police Station. He is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
