On Monday, 09 March 2026, vigilant members from the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team arrested two suspects aged 21 and 23, at Ntuzuma Township for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of property which is suspected to be stolen.
The Provincial Task Team members were patrolling along California Road in Ntuzuma when they spotted a VW Polo driving along the same road without any number plates fitted on it. Police officers made a U-turn and attempted to stop the vehicle. As the members signalled for the vehicle to stop, the two occupants in the vehicle opted to drive away. The suspects’ vehicle could not get very far as they were intercepted by police officers after a brief chase along California Road.
The suspects were searched and were found with an unlicensed 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition. A quick check on the firearm revealed that it was reported stolen in a house robbery incident which occurred in Ntuzuma in February 2026. Five cellular phones were found during the search which the suspects could not account for.
The two suspects were immediately arrested and subsequently charged for unlawful possession of a firearm as well as being in possession of goods suspected to be stolen. Police also seized the vehicle used by the suspects. The arrested suspects will appear before the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
