The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State is shocked and deeply concerned by a tragic shooting incident in which a 47-year-old member stationed in Hennenman as a Rural Safety Coordinator allegedly shot five people, resulting in three fatalities and two injuries, before taking his own life.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Thabang Lesia, has strongly condemned the incident and expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that preceded the incident.
Cases of murder, attempted murder and an inquest will be registered and investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
