A Monitor Lizard believed to have sustained multiple injuries was discovered at a residence on Henrietta Street in Mitchell Village, Tongaat – KZN yesterday (Monday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the property after the reptile was located in the backyard beneath a wash trough. On arrival, Reaction Officers located the Monitor Lizard concealed underneath the structure.
Upon inspection, the reptile was found to have several old injuries that appeared to be in the process of healing (pictures 3 & 5). The wounds resembled those that may have been caused by multiple air rifle pellets, however this could not be confirmed. The Monitor Lizard was safely captured and removed from the property.
It was thereafter handed over to the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) for further veterinary assessment and care.
