The swift response of the police led to the arrest of two suspects, few minutes after they have just committed a business at a well known store in Zandspruit shopping complex.
It is reported that on the morning of 12 April 2026, the two suspects held the employees of the store and the security officer at gun point while they stole cellphones and money from the till and fled on foot.
As they were running away, they came across a police vehicle that was patrolling around the area and a shooting ensued. Backup was activated including a chopper and both suspects were apprehended. Two firearms were recovered from the suspects including the cellphones and cash that they have reportedly just robbed from the store. No one was injured from the shooting.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni applauded the members for their swift reaction and for maintaining visibility in public areas.
The duo is expected to appear before Roodepoort Magistrates’ court on Monday, 13 April 2026 on a charge of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
