Shortly after midnight, Best Care Emergency Medical Service, responded with the Advanced Life Support & Cardiac Unit driven proudly by Chery Centurion to an industrial workplace incident involving a male patient who sustained blunt force trauma.
Upon arrival, crews found the patient injured after a trailer carrying a heavy load reportedly gave way, resulting in significant trauma. Advanced Life Support interventions were initiated on scene, with the patient being assessed, treated, and stabilized before being transported to a private hospital for further definitive care.
This incident occurred only hours after workplace injuries and occupational safety were discussed on the Mense Wat Omgee programme on Pretoria FM sponsored by CrisisOnCall. It serves as a reminder that industrial incidents can occur unexpectedly and that maintaining a strong culture of workplace safety remains essential.
Best Care EMS would like to acknowledge the assistance provided by the EST – Emergency Support Team members who were completing an observation shift with the ALS & Cardiac Unit. Their support during patient care and scene operations contributed positively to the overall management of the incident.
We would also like to thank K2 Medical for the #EasyWarm patient warming blanket, which played an important role in patient care. With a real-feel temperature of approximately 9ยฐC on the industrial site, maintaining the patient’s body temperature formed a critical component of trauma management and helped reduce the risk of hypothermia.
