The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, received information regarding the location of individuals allegedly involved in housebreaking activities, in the Boksburg and Benoni areas.
The information, including a description of the suspects and the vehicle they were travelling in, was shared with the operational team. Officers were deployed to strategic locations and an operation was conducted on the same day. The suspect’s vehicle, a white Toyota Camry, was spotted travelling along Atlas Road in Boksburg. Officers successfully stopped the vehicle, which had two occupants and conducted a search.
During the search, a pair of registration number plates were found in the boot of the vehicle. In addition, a bag containing gloves, a bolt cutter, two crowbars, two pick axes, hammers and screwdrivers were discovered on the back seat and seized. The driver and passenger failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of these implements.
The forty-one-year-old (41) and thirty-nine (39) year-old suspects were arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station for possession of housebreaking implements. They are expected to appear before the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
