SAPS management in the Western Cape has commended a member of the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit, who demonstrated the highest level of integrity while carrying out his duties on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
The member received a phone call from a gang leader who is currently serving a sentence at Pollsmoor Prison. The gang leader requested that the member collect drugs from his wife and hand them over to an inmate appearing at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court. He also offered the member a cash payment for carrying out the request.
The member proceeded to the address in Otland Street, Westridge. Upon arrival, the woman handed him a parcel containing dagga, two grams of tik, two knives, four cigarette lighters, a packet of cigarettes, and cash. The 32-year-old woman was immediately arrested for possession of drugs and bribery.
Once charged, the suspect is expected to appear before the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, members of the Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit arrested three male suspects for possession of a prohibited firearm at Walmer Crescent, Wesbank. Acting on information received, members searched the premises and found three men inside the house. A 9mm pistol with the serial number removed and 14 rounds of ammunition were recovered from under a mattress and seized.
The three suspects are expected to appear before the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged.
