A 32-year-old suspect was arrested in East London after Mdantsane Flying Squad members received a call from SQ Risk requesting a backup as they were tracking cellphones that were taken during a business robbery that took place in Vincent Park East London.
It is alleged that on Saturday, 05 July 2025, at approximately 10:30 members on operation proceeded to St George’s Street in Southernwood, where they were pointed out the whereabouts of the suspects. Thorough investigation led them to the 8th floor where they recovered a number of cellphones, routers, and an undisclosed amount of money. Two unlicensed firearms were recovered (Norinco 9mm pistol and a .38 special revolver) and will be taken for ballistic testing for further investigation.
A 32-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of two unlicensed firearms, live ammunition, and suspected stolen property as the others managed to flee when they saw the police. A Suzuki vehicle was also seized as it was used in the commission of crime. Fake registration number plates were also found.
The suspect will appear before East London Magistrate’s Court soon.
