The swift response by detectives from the Alice SAPS has led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male suspect in connection with a case of attempted murder and robbery that occurred at a local high school.
This follows a case which was opened on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, after a distressing incident at Nkwenkwezini High School in the Dyamala locality, Alice.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, at approximately 08:00, a 16-year-old scholar was attacked by a fellow student inside the school premises. The victim was stabbed in the neck, robbed of his cellphone and a sum of cash, and subsequently shoved into a pit toilet. The victim remained trapped there throughout the night
He was discovered the following morning, on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, by another learner and was rushed to Victoria Hospital for urgent medical attention. He is currently recovering from his injuries.
The identified 17-year-old suspect was and arrested on Wednesday, 20 August 2025. He has been charged with Attempted Murder and Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
The suspect, who is also a minor, appeared before the Alice Magistrate’s Court on 21 August 2025. The court has remanded him in custody at the John X Meriman Juvenile Centre. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, 25 August 2025.
“We commend the community and the school for their cooperation and the investigating team for their swift work which led to this arrest. We assure the community that such acts of violence, especially within our places of learning, will be met with the full might of the law,” stated the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Eastern Cape, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso.
