Operations aimed at eradicating the influx of illegal drugs and firearms in local communities continue to yield positive results, following the arrest of multiple suspects in Deneysville and Heilbron by members of the Welkom #AntiGangUnit during targeted crime combating duties.
While deployed for crime prevention duties in Deneysville, unit members received operational information regarding individuals allegedly dealing in illicit drugs at the local taxi rank. Members promptly responded to the scene and spotted two males exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
Upon conducting a search of both individuals, members found a 43-year-old male in possession of zip lock bags containing Mandrax and Crystal Meth. He was immediately taken into custody.
Continuing with strategic patrols, the team proceeded to the Phomolong section in Refengkgotso. During the operation, members arrested a 29-year-old male after he was found in unlawful possession of nine rounds of live ammunition, crystal meth, mandrax and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Deneysville Magistrate’s Court shortly, facing charges relating to illegal drug possession and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Upon concluding duties in Deneysville, the Anti-Gang Unit advanced to Heilbron to maintain operational momentum. Members acted swiftly on community-generated intelligence regarding a residential property in Sandersville allegedly utilized for drug peddling.
Upon arrival at the location, officers encountered a group of males smoking drugs. A targeted search was conducted, resulting in the arrest of a 21-year-old male found in possession of mandrax tablets and cash.
Following further intelligence-led leads, the unit proceeded to additional hot spots in President Street. The team intercepted a 35-year-old suspect found in possession of a combination of mandrax, nyaope, and crystal meth. Nearby, the members spotted two males acting suspiciously. A search of the duo, aged 32 and 35, yielded mandrax tablets, crystal meth, and nyaope.
All suspects arrested in Heilbron will appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court soon to face formal charges related to drug dealing and possession of illicit substances.
