A licensed 9mm Luger M80 pistol with ten (10) live rounds of ammunition, a Baredda 9mm replica firearm, a unbranded replica 9mm pistol and twenty (20) live 9mm ammunition has been recovered by Reaction Officers following the arrest of two (2) armed robbers.
The recovery was made by Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) this afternoon following up on leads after an Off- Duty Reaction Officer was injured while trying to stop an Armed Robbery in Progress last night (Wednesday) on Lakeview Place in Missionlands – KZN.
An On-Duty Reaction Officer responding to an unrelated call found his colleague in a tussle with two (2) suspects who were robbing a female. One (1) suspect was arrested on scene and detained at Verulam SAPS in KZN. A second suspect with a 9mm pistol fled into the darkness and could not be immediately located.
When Police Detectives interviewed the suspect in custody, he provided information regarding his accomplice. Police then shared this information with Reaction Officers who then arrested the wanted suspect in the Verulam CBD in KZN this afternoon (Thursday).
When interviewed at the scene on the corner of Todd & Ireland Street, the suspect became evasive regarding the location of the firearm. Reaction Officers later recovered the firearms behind a cupboard & under a bed at a home in Mhlasini – KZN.
Investigation revealed that the suspects were responsible for multiple armed robberies & intended on recruiting accomplices to continue with thier crime spree as they acquired more firearms.
Both suspects are currently in custody.
