BLOEMFONTEIN – During the execution of Safer Festive Season activities and Operation Shanela 2, members of Public Order Police (POP) Unit Bloemfontein, received intelligence on proliferation of illegal firearms and operationalised it. The team arrived at the identified target house in Phase 4 – Bloemspruit and conducted a search.
The police found a 9mm Berretta pistol with a magazine loaded with live ammunition rounds, wrapped with black plastic and tucked inside a wall crack. The 35-year-old illegal immigrant couldn’t produce a license to possess a firearm and proper travel documents.
A case docket of Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, with additional charge of Contravention of Immigration Act, was opened at Sonskyn Police Station, and the suspect was immediately placed under arrest. The 35-year-old suspect will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
