The two detainees from Cookhouse in the Eastern Cape, who escaped from lawful custody, have been re-arrested within 60 hours following their escape.
It is reported that on Friday, 05 December 2025, police received information about the whereabouts of the two detainees, who were seen in Bedford. A team of police officers from various policing units was activated, and managed to re-arrest Atshaxole Booi (23) who was found walking along the street at around 07:40 the following day, 06 December 2025. The second escapee, Patrick Ndokweni (34), was traced and found hiding inside an abandoned house in Bedford at aproximately 09:30 today. The duo is set to appear before the Cookhouse Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 08 December 2025 on charges ranging from assault to escaping from lawful custody.
The acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso has expressed her gratitude to all the role players, and stated “The effective collaboration between law enforcement and the media, which disseminated the crucial information to the public led to the re-arrest of the two escapees.”
