Members of the Provincial Anti-Hijacking Task Team, Ehlanzeni, received information while on standby regarding a carjacking incident that had occurred in the Kabokweni area.
According to reports, a white Toyota Hilux bakkie, registered in Mpumalanga, was hijacked at gunpoint in Kabokweni. The driver was also allegedly kidnapped during the incident.
The information was immediately operationalised in collaboration with the vehicle tracking company, and tracking coordinates were shared with members involved in the operation.
A tracing and tracking operation was conducted, resulting in the successful recovery of the hijacked Toyota Hilux in the Pienaar area, where it had been abandoned in nearby bushes.
Further investigations led to the location of the victim in the Thekwane North area. The victim was safely rescued and subsequently taken to Kabokweni SAPS, where a case was opened for further investigation.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the hijacking and kidnapping are continuing. No arrests have been made at this stage.
