A man was killed and thirteen others injured this morning when a taxi rear-ended a truck on London Road in Alexandra, Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, responded through the early morning traffic to the scene.
On arrival, paramedics found that a taxi had rear-ended a truck and trailer, both of the vehicles sitting in the middle of the road.
The front of the taxi was found partially wedged beneath the truck trailer.
A body of a man was found lying trapped inside the taxi showing no signs of life. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene.
It is believed the deceased had been sitting in the front of the taxi and had been flung back in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
13 other patients were found on scene, some lying trapped inside the taxi while others were seated outside the vehicle.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment.
The road was closed for some time and traffic is heavily affected in the area.
Local authorities are on scene for further investigations.
