JMPD Tactical Response Unit (TRU) officers arrested three male suspects at Evette Court, Jeppe Street, for Impersonating City Power Employees, Extortion, and Corruption.
The Incident:
The unit responded to a call from EnviroMongz security who had apprehended the trio. Investigations revealed:
* Two suspects are City Power interns (not authorised for field metering).
* The third suspect (a Ugandan national) falsely claimed to be a City Power Manager.
* The suspects demanded and received R3,500 from a building owner to “inspect” meters.
Arrest & Recovery:
Officers recovered the R3,500 cash and City Power uniforms used in the commission of the crime. The suspects were detained at Joburg Central SAPS.
