The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received a call for assistance after residents reported two (2) large snakes outside a property on Tulip Place in Buffelsdale, Tongaat – KZN today (Tuesday).
Upon arrival, Reaction Officers located one (1) snake inside a discarded car tyre (picture 2) outside the property. Residents confirmed that a second snake retreated into nearby bush before Officers arrived. The captured snake was identified as a Night Adder measuring approximately one (1) metre in length.
This species possesses cytotoxic venom and can deliver a painful bite, however it is generally not considered aggressive unless threatened.
