More than 100 goats were stolen during an armed business robbery at a livestock business in Canelands – KZN during the early hours of today (Saturday, 27/06/2026).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the premises on Old Main Road at 01:56 following reports of the robbery.
Reaction Officers interviewed the Complainant, who explained that at approximately 23:50 on Friday night, five (5) armed suspects arrived in a white closed truck. The suspects called out to an employee residing on the property and falsely claimed they had purchased goats. They allegedly produced a delivery slip before luring the employee to the gate.
When the employee approached to inspect the document, he was grabbed, held at gunpoint and forced to unlock the gate. The suspects entered the premises and loaded approximately 100 goats onto the truck. A further 14 goats were loaded onto a trailer attached to the vehicle. The employee was forced to assist the suspects in loading the livestock.
As the suspects attempted to leave, the trailer carrying the 14 goats became stuck (picture 2). While they were trying to recover it, the employee managed to break free, escaped and alerted nearby residents. The suspects abandoned the trailer and fled the scene with the truck carrying the stolen livestock.
The employee sustained minor injuries after reportedly being slapped during the robbery.
