Dedicated members attached to a multidisciplinary Abalone Task Team, operating in the Kouga Municipal area, successfully executed an intelligence driven, waylay operation in targeted areas along the Jeffrey’s Bay coast line, that led to the arrest of five male suspects aged between 22 and 37 found in possession of a significant amount of abalone on 10 July 2025.
According to reports a group of suspected abalone poachers were spotted carrying bags, suspected to be filled with abalone. Members tactically approached the group and managed to arrest five suspects in terms of the Marine Living Resources Act, Act no 18 of 1998. Abalone with an estimated street value of two hundred and fifty thousand rand (R250 000) was seized.
The suspects are due to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court today, 11 July 2025.
