A fleeing suspect who shot & killed a 21 year man before robbing him has been arrested by an Officer from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after a lengthy vehicle/foot chase.
A Reaction Officer driving on a link road between Ottawa & R102 Plamview in KZN was flagged down by pedestrians reporting that a man had just been shot (06:54 Saturday). The Reaction Officer responded & found two (2) suspects hovering over & robbing a man who was bleeding profusely.
The suspects opened fire on the
Reaction Officer who drew his weapon but was unable to shoot back concerned for the safety of several people in the immediate vicinity that were fleeing for cover. The Officer called for Paramedics to assist the victim & a lenthy chase ensued.
The suspects split up & fled in opposite directions. The Officer called for additional back-up support & chased one (1) suspect. When the suspect failed to outrun the Reaction Officer, he aggressively attacked the uniformed member. He was tackled to the ground and arrested. The suspect was injured during the arrest. Reaction Officers could not located the second suspect.
Paramedics who responded to the call for assistance (picture 4) found the victim with three (3) gunshot wounds. One (1) round had penetrated his left chest. He succumbed to his injuries while been treated. According to Patient Record Form (PRF) RUSA Paramedics declared the victim deceased at 07:10. He was later identified as Maliviwe Ngcongo (21) who was on route to his workplace in Cornubia – KZN.
The suspects are believed to be responsible for several attacks on motorists & pedestrians at the Palmview/R102 Intersection in KZN.
