Earlier this afternoon, PVES responders, a PVES practitioner, and a PVES doctor responded to a critical snake bite incident in Jan Niemand Park after an adult male was bitten on the arm by a black mamba.
On arrival, the patient was found conscious but in significant distress, struggling to breathe inside his vehicle. A tourniquet was applied above the bite site in an attempt to slow further envenomation, and the patient was carefully removed from the vehicle to allow emergency crews better access for treatment.
Additional advanced life support crews arrived shortly thereafter, and due to the patient’s rapidly deteriorating condition, he was intubated and placed on a ventilator to support his breathing.
The patient was then transported urgently to a medical facility, where hospital staff had been placed on standby ahead of arrival.
This incident highlights how rapid response, coordinated teamwork, and advanced medical intervention can make a life-saving difference in extremely time-sensitive emergencies.
