As part of concerted efforts by police to rid communities of illicit drugs, Da Gamaskop police confiscated drugs valued at about R115 000 during a crime combatting operation in Mossel Bay.
On Monday, 11 May 2026, at about 20:00, Da Gamaskop police and Mossel Bay Sea Border members embarked on an operation at Raymond Mhlaba Street, Luthuli Park in Mossel Bay. A search of the premises ensued, leading to the confiscation of 965 mandrax tablets, 181 grams of tik, 116 litres of liquor, and an undisclosed amount of cash. The police arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the find on charges of dealing in drugs as well as selling liquor without a licence.
The cash is believed to be proceeds of the illegal drug and liquor trade.
In an unrelated intervention, on Sunday, 10 May 2026, Beaufort West police members conducted patrols at Nkosi Avenue in Beaufort West when they spotted a man in the street who acted suspiciously when he saw the police vehicles approaching. The vigilant members approached the man, who tried to evade the members. His freedom was short-lived when the members caught up with him. They searched the man (29) and found a homemade zip gun in his possession. He was subsequently arrested for possession of a homemade firearm.
The suspects will appear in court once charged.
