As a call was received in the DFW offices in Paarl, to assist with a chainsaw injuries at the R101 old pass road, du toit kloof area, the first team was on its way in minutes.
The owner ( a DFW subscription member) did send the exact location of the scene to the DFW whatsapp emergency number and explained in a second whatsapp, what happened and what for the crew to expect.
On site, the injured was treated and bandaged for a superficial minor wound of (R) forearm, the skin was luckily just scraped off by the saw. The backoffice teams notified, that neither ambulance or follow up response was needed . The young man walked away with a smile on his face and some serious advice to wear protective clothing.
A 7 min response time was measured, as the DFW offices and emergency vehicles and fire trucks station is based at the bottom of the pass.
The DFW are often first on site of any incident, fire or medical, due to the direct lines and the valley spread first responder volunteers.
We wish the injured person a speedy recovery and hope he realizes, that he was extremely lucky.
