Combatting gun violence and drug distribution in gang-ridden communities in the Cape Metrople yielded success when police members arrested suspects for the illegal possession of a firearm and drugs.
Members of Public Order Policing received information from Crime Intelligence about a firearm at a premises in Makhaza Kraal, Khayelitsha. The information was operationalised and the members searched the identified premises in the earlier hours of Thursday morning and seized a rifle which was hidden under a wooden floor. Two males aged 51 and 52 were arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm.
In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Shanela II, searched a premises in Mentz Court, Hanover Park, where they confiscated 11 mandrax tablets and 23 units heroin. They arrested a 37-year-old male for the possession of drugs.
At another premises in Hanall Walk, Hanover Park, the members found 14 packets containing crystal meth and one and a half mandrax tablets in the house. A 53-year-old male was arrested for the possession of drugs.
