Two (2) men were killed and a third critically injured after armed suspects opened fire during a home invasion in Cottonlands – KZN in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 01:16 reporting a shooting at a rented two (2) room house. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, Officers made contact with a female who stated that two (2) suspects armed with rifles forced entry into the residence. According to the witness, the suspects pushed open the door and held her husband at gunpoint while demanding firearms and cash. The male informed them that there were no weapons or money in the residence.
Two (2) other tenants who were in another room heard the commotion and exited to investigate. The suspects then held the pair at gunpoint and forced them into the same room as the couple.
The suspects thereafter opened fire on the three (2) men, shooting them multiple times in their upper and lower bodies. The female and her two-year-old child who were present in the room at the time were not injured.
Two (2) of the men were declared deceased on scene. The third victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was left in a critical condition while awaiting medical assistance. The suspects stole two (2) Hisense cellular telephones before fleeing the scene on foot.
Their getaway vehicle could not be confirmed.
