Four people have died and two others sustained various injuries after a minibus taxi collided with a truck on the R28 in Randfontein this morning.
The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but the minibus taxi had allegedly collided into the side of the truck. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the collision was severe as the minibus taxi had sustained substantial damage.
Two male occupants from the minibus taxi had been ejected from the vehicle and were found a few meters away from the wreck. Both men had sustained various fatal injuries and were later declared dead at the scene. Another two male occupants were found entrapped in the taxi. Unfortunately they too had sustained various fatal injuries and were also declared dead.
One occupant, a pregnant female, sustained various serious injuries. On-scene paramedics promptly dispatched a medical helicopter to the scene and the female patient was later airlifted to the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital for further medical treatment.
One other occupant who had also sustained serious injuries, was rapidly transported to a nearby medical facility for further care. Local law enforcement officials attended the collision and will be investigating the incident further.
