A male canoeist was found dead this morning at the Klipdrift dam, 25km outside Potchefstroom.
The man, believed to be in his late forties, went missing during a canoe trip on Saturday March 1.
An emergency diving squad search operation was activated after the deceased’s family alerted the fire department about his disappearance on Saturday.
The squad searched the dam since then and found the man dead this morning.
Responding ER24 paramedics said he was wearing a life jacket making it unclear how the canoeist drowned.
They added that he may have been weighed down by his clothes which appeared to be considerably “heavy”.
Forensic investigators and police department personnel were on scene to investigate.
