An 83-year-old woman was assaulted by her son during the early hours of the morning (Tuesday) at a residence on Douglas Road in Belvedere, Tongaat – KwaZulu-Natal.
According to the victim, the incident occurred at approximately 04:00 when her 40-year-old son arrived at the house and demanded that she leave the premises. She reported that he used abusive language towards her and, without provocation, sprayed pesticide into her eyes before assaulting her by striking her on the face & hands. She sustained visible injuries in the attack. During the altercation, the suspect also threw her personal belongings out of the house.
The woman explained that the property is a rented residence and that her son is responsible for paying the rent. Following the assault, the elderly woman managed to leave the residence and sought refuge at a relative’s home in Saunders Circle, Belvedere, Tongaat – KZN.
Concerned family members subsequently contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance. Reaction Officers responded to the call and, upon arrival, made contact with the victim, who recounted the ordeal.
The elderly female intends on registering a criminal case against her son.
