On Tuesday 16 December 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers and the Eastern Region Task Team, in conjunction with the Putfontein South African Police Service (SAPS) Officers, arrested seven (7) male drivers aged between forty (40) and fifty (50) for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Six (6) drivers were stopped and tested during the operations held at Durant, Vester, Kerk, and Lorie Streets in Benoni. They tested over the legal limit, were taken for blood samples, and detained at Putfontein police station.
In Brakpan, one (1) more driver was arrested during a liquor outlet compliance check. He was also tested, arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station. All suspects will appear in their respective Magistrate’s Courts.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) urges motorists to avoid driving under the influence, for the safety of all road users.
